The Member Council will serve as an advisory body representing the voice of IAM members, ensuring that their perspectives and needs shape the Institute's strategic direction, services, and professional standards.
The Member Council is a fundamental part of the IAM's commitment to being a member-led organisation. Established to ensure that the views and experiences of our members directly inform our decision-making, the Council provides a vital link between our membership and the Institute's leadership.
Comprising elected and appointed members from across our global community, the Council will meet regularly to discuss matters affecting the profession and to advise the Board of Directors on policy, services, and strategic priorities.
Every IAM member will automatically be part of the Member Council and can participate in its activities.
Full details about the Member Council structure, elections, and participation will be available at the end of Q4 2026.
The Member Council serves several important functions within the IAM
Provide input and recommendations on the IAM's strategic direction, helping to shape priorities that reflect member needs and professional trends.
Gather and communicate member views, concerns, and suggestions to the Board of Trustees, ensuring the member voice is heard at the highest level.
Review and comment on proposed policies, membership structures, qualification developments, and service improvements before implementation.
Champion the interests of administrative and business management professionals, advocating for recognition and advancement of the profession.
Ensure diverse geographic representation, bringing perspectives from members across different regions and cultural contexts.
Encourage active member participation in IAM activities and initiatives, fostering a vibrant and engaged professional community.
How the Member Council is organised
The Member Council is headed by the Chairman of the IAM or a person appointed by the Chairman. The Chair leads Council meetings, sets the agenda in consultation with members, and represents the Council in discussions with the Board of Trustees.
Executive Representatives serve as the working committee of the Council. These members are elected from different membership grades and geographic regions to ensure broad representation.
All IAM members are part of the Member Council and can participate in its activities. This includes attending the Annual General Meeting, responding to consultations, standing for election as an Executive Representative, and engaging through regional networks and special interest groups.
Ways to participate in the Member Council
Join the Annual General Meeting where key decisions are made and Council representatives are elected. All members are welcome to attend and vote.
The Council regularly seeks member input on proposed changes, new services, and strategic priorities. Your feedback directly influences decisions.
Consider standing as an Executive Representative. It's an opportunity to shape the IAM's future and develop leadership skills.
Participate in specialist working groups that focus on specific topics such as qualifications, CPD, or regional development.
Connect with other members in your region through local networks and events organised by regional representatives.
Contact your regional representative or the Council directly with ideas, concerns, or suggestions at any time.
The Executive Representatives will meet quarterly to discuss matters affecting members and the profession. Meetings will be held virtually to enable participation from our global membership.
The detailed meeting schedule for 2027 will be published at the end of Q4 2026 when full Member Council information becomes available.
Have a question or suggestion for the Member Council? We welcome input from all members.
